Highlights of the Minor Football Final Dublin V’s Tipperary

AS 2011 dawned the Sam Maguire was tucked up on Leeside but 160 miles away, Pat Gilroy’s Dublin were plotting to wrestle back ownership of the All-Ireland senior football crown for the first time in 16 years.In 2008, 2009 and 2010 Dublin were strong contenders but had failed to make the final. Would that change in 2011?

Dublin came through a tough Leinster campaign with wins over Laois, a controversial ‘1 pointer’ over Kildare in the semi and survived a tough challenge from Wexford in the Final. In the All Ireland quarter final The Dubs showed some real swagger and flair to record a decisive win over old rivals, Tyrone. On to the semi final and a clash with a defensive styled Donegal where another aspect of the Dublin game, hard work and stamina, was needed to get them over the line and qualify for their first All Ireland Final since 1995.

By contrast it was only 2 years since their final opponents, Kerry, were in the final. In the Munster

final Jack O’Connor’s team saw off the reigning ll Ireland Champions, Cork. From there it was an easy win over Limerick in the All Ireland quarterfinal and in the semi against Mayo they showed enough to remind us why this star-studded team was worthy to be back in the final.

The scene was set for a mouth watering final.So far this year Gilroy’s men had shown real determination in 5 tough matches but could they do it one more time?
